- Steve at www.alpedehuez.co.nz has kindly agreed to provide some generous sponsorship to a group of athletes taking on Ironman NZ (www.ironman.co.nz) at Taupo, New Zealand in March 2008. My first experience of IM was watching the NZ IM event in the early 90's when it was based in Auckland. Since then I've been an avid IM age grouper and managed 8 finishes at Auckland, Taupo, Hawaii and Wanaka. My most recent achievements were earlier this year at the new Wanaka challenge event over the traditional ironman distances. Although a small event Wanaka is set to take off, it has a spectacular swim and bike course with a very challenging run. This event is amongst some of NZ’s most spectacular scenery and is run by a triathlete for triathletes! Say no more. I live just out of Whangarei on a 15 acre horticulture block which we have developed over the past 5 years. I have a very understanding wife (an understatement) and two fine kids who are both at university.
